Marilyn Vrooman - Certified Trainer Marilyn Vrooman has been serving the educational needs of Oklahoma City public school children for nearly 20 years. She was a Vocational Family and Consumer Science teacher at N.W. Classen High School for 7 years. She then became an Assistant Principal at John Marshall High School for one year; was transferred to U.S. Grant High school for one year; and then was promoted to the Principal position at Roosevelt Middle School where she is currently serving. Roosevelt Middle School initiated a single-sex pilot after recording a 17% gender gap in reading performance on their state testing. The Gurian Institute team worked with the school for three years. Roosevelt has a population of students receiving 99% free and reduced lunch and is located in an area with historically high poverty and low academic achievement. Under Marilyn’s leadership, Roosevelt narrowed their reading achievement by 9% in the first year. Her ability to motivate and support her staff has resulted in great success for students and teachers alike, and she brings that same passion to her training. Marilyn holds a BS and MS in Vocational Family & Consumer Science from the University of Central Oklahoma, and is currently pursing doctoral studies in Education, Curriculum and Supervision with emphasis on Technology Education at the University of Oklahoma. |
