I truly believe that recent brain-based research is the “missing link” that educators have looked for. There have been many fads, in education, that have come and gone, but they have ignored the different ways that boys and girls perceive the world and learn. Michael Gurian and the Gurian Institute have taken brain-based research and applied it to classrooms. By focusing on brain processing differences, Gurian Institute techniques augment what teachers already do in their classrooms for the benefit all students.
I am committed to helping teachers, parents and anyone who comes in contact with young people, to better understand the brain differences of boys and girls, so that our families, schools and communities foster children into successful adults.
I have taught at Yale Junior High School for the last 11 years teaching mostly 7th grade science and some social studies. This school year (2008-2009) I will be piloting single-gender classes in 7th grade science. I earned a B. S. in Education from Central Michigan University and a M. A. T. degree from Marygrove College. During my summers I crop farm about 100 acres and work with my father as a licensed builder. When I am not working I enjoy traveling and spending time out doors with my family. I look forward to talking and working with you.
