Janet Banister - Certified Trainer I have taught high school for 17 years. I started my college education at the age of 40. It wasn’t easy to obtain my degree while being a wife and mother of three; however, it was one of the best decisions that I have ever made. My certifications include English, journalism, and oral communication. I am a firm believer that all children can learn. It is my desire to continue to learn new methods to reach all students. My most recent teaching experience has been at Hope High School in Hope, Arkansas. Teaching at Hope High School has been an exciting, yet challenging task. We are in year six of school improvement. Although I have not received official word, it is believed that we have reached safe harbor for the school year 2009-2010. During the time I have taught at HHS, I have been fortunate to attend various professional development sessions. The most beneficial has been The Gurian Institute, Boys and Girls Learn Differently. The methods I have learned are practical research-based strategies that work. Educators who have tapped into these strategies have seen dramatic improvement in schools. Since attending the session last year, it has been my desire to become a trainer. I would love to be actively involved in spreading the “good news” to other educators. If schools, beginning with the early education of students, would put these principles into practice, I believe, there would be a remarkable improvement in education. |
