Jim Weber has been a high school English teacher for 13 years.  The first seven years of his career were spent at Mt. Carmel High School, an all boys high school in Chicago,   Currently he is employed at Eisenhower High School in Blue Island, Illinois. He is the Dean for half of the freshmen class as well as the facilitator of a Small Learning Community within the high school. 

The Small Learning Community is comprised of 100 “at risk” freshmen students.  Jim coordinates the program that involves five general curricular education teachers and a social worker with a focus on interdisciplinary studies.  The students are grouped in cohorts of 25 students that travel together throughout the school day.  The cohorts are separated into two groups of all boys and two groups of all girls. 

Jim is currently in an Educational Leadership Doctoral program at Chicago State University.   In the spring of 2007 Jim was the recipient of a Doctoral Fellowship based on a research proposal he submitted which outlined the single gender program at his high school. With the Fellowship he was able to become a Certified Trainer at the Gurian Institute.  He has worked with his staff at Eisenhower High School using the methods of the Gurian Institute.  He has also presented Gurian information to the staff at Mt. Carmel High School in Chicago.   In the fall of 2007 he traveled with Kathy Stevens to The Boys Latin School in Baltimore to assist with the training of the school’s staff. 

Jim lives in St. John, Indiana (Chicagoland area) with his wife of over ten years, Jacqueline and their two children, Jon and Marie.
