On February 12, 2008 Gaynor received “Teacher of the Year” award from the Washington Federation of Independent Schools.  Gaynor has often stated: “Everyone is a teacher, some of us just get paid for it.”  When one is paid for teaching, you take on the professional responsibility to continuously improve and using the Gurian Institute materials puts a teacher on path to many positive outcomes.

Her path to improvement started after listening to an interview on National Public Radio by Diane Rehms with Michael Gurian, she knew the information could not only improve her teaching methods, but help parents, students and other professionals!  Within hours she found a copy of the “Wonder of Girls” and totally agreed with the information. She read several of the Gurian publications, which lead her to the Gurian Institute.

Driven by a relentless passion for excellence in teaching, a commitment to educational improvements and a demonstrated track record of teaching success, she offers hope to students that struggle to find their place in today’s classrooms.  Gaynor puts all of her talents and beliefs into a career that truly proves to be a positive action in other’s lives.

She has a Master’s Degree, and has certifications in Special Education, Bilingual Education, Elementary Education and English as a Second Language and is a certified Gurian presenter.  Her twenty years of classroom experience and lifetime of experience training dogs and horses and her own positive track history as a wife, mother and grandmother gives her a solid foundation to draw from. She has a wealth of knowledge to share and proven experiences to help others.

Gaynor currently teaches in a unique setting in Rural Eastern Washington. Her class venue is a K–12, one-room school for a Hutterite Community where the application of the Gurian information occurs many times each day.  She also has teaching responsibilities at Big Bend Community College and Heritage University where she is influencing future teachers.

In the college and university settings she has required as a text: “Boys and Girls Learn Differently”. The evaluations of her classes always include how much they have gained by reading and studying this Gurian Institute book.  Several book studies have developed from the students’ exposure to the Gurian books used in Gaynor’s classes.

Gaynor’s lifetime of teaching experiences have been enhanced by the Gurian materials!  With the knowledge of how the brain is functioning, she has seen positive changes in her students’ behavior.  The knowledge she has gained using various techniques, makes her anxious to explain to others how these facts could help in their classrooms and personal lives.
