Dorothea Ragsdale - Certified Trainer Dorothea Ragsdale grew up in Mexico City, Mexico, was educated in the United States and has worked in Mexico and the United States. Mrs. Ragsdale has worked with children since 1974, both volunteering and teaching. Her experiences range from volunteering at child abuse shelters, adolescent clinics and job skills training for young men to teaching Spanish and French to children in PK-10th grade. Prior to having children of her own, she worked in the Hospitality Industry in Mexico and the US. Her formal education includes British schooling as a child growing up in Mexico, a military prep school in Indiana with the first class of girls, three universities across the South, a Bachelor of Science degree and current work on a Masters Program in Multicultural studies. Mrs. Ragsdale writes: “Before reading Michael Gurian and Kathy Stevens’ books, I had independently arrived at my own conclusions about how boys and girls learn differently. I found that the Gurian books not only confirmed my personal beliefs, but what spoke most eloquently to me was the humanity and the genuine care for all children that came across in the writing. "My husband and I had decided to home school our 8-year-old son, who was experiencing many of the same learning challenges that I had seen with my own male students over the years. I followed the best practices from The Minds of Boys and approached my son’s and my students’ in more “boy friendly” ways and the results have been amazing! “Being a certified Gurian Institute trainer is an excellent complement to my professional experience, as it allows me the opportunity to teach parents and teachers about gender learning differences and provide them with the best strategies to enhance their childrens’ and students’ learning experiences.” Dorothea Ragsdale resides in Leesburg, VA (outside of Washington DC), with her husband and two children. |
